    Preoccupied vs being idle

My friends were telling me life is so inconsistent. One moment you are rushing assignments, studying for exams, having sleepless nights, and another moment you are just sitting right there staring at the ceiling and doing nothing…

Well, this thought suddenly came into mind… if you are given two choices, one is your days are fully occupied with things to do, be it things you enjoy very much like shopping, meeting friends or things that you don’t really enjoy such as studying, work… (Just assume that everyone doesn’t like to work ok?) You just like to be active, not wanting to waste a moment of your life by keeping yourself busy… And another choice is you have nothing to do at all, no one is free to ‘entertain’ you, you are there in your house alone, no one is bothering you, no work, no plan and you are just being idle… Which will you prefer?

So far I have asked 3 person, 2 guys and 1 girl. One of the guys prefers the first choice which is being preoccupied with things. Another guy and the girl would prefer being idle for the day… But all of them agree it’s best to integrate both. Well, different people with different character will have different preferences. Some just can’t sit still for even one minute, while some will be so depressed just by hearing the word work… Some depend so much on their friends or other people in order to be ‘alive’ while some are just fine even without interacting with anybody for the day… Does any one of it sound familiar to you?

Well, I guess man cannot live by just having one of the choices, neither being preoccupied nor being idle for a life time. They must integrate. For me, I would prefer my days to be occupied but there must be a balance between work and play. I personally don’t enjoy holidays that are spent alone… I don’t mind going to college in the morning, meeting up with friends in the afternoon, going to church at night… as long as I get enough sleep and have time for myself at the end of the day… But there are also time where i get lazy and just not wanting to do anything... Anyone can suggest what is the best formula? 80% preoccupied 20% being idle? Or 60% preoccupied and 40% being idle? By the way can this really happen? Is it realistic?
